DETROIT (June 9, 2014) – Skeleton Crew is set to enter the recording studio today in what the band calls their “Bey-lated thank you” to Beyonce for including the band in her “***FLAWLESS” video. “We thought simply sending flowers wasn’t enough,” said Scott Christy, Skeleton Crew guitarist and founding member. “So we’ve been holed up working hard on a song that might adequately thank her in addition to lending support to her feminist initiative.”
The band will be recording with Emmy-Award winning producer, Kevin Sharpe, at Detroit’s Metro 37 Recording Studios, over two days. The song, which the band remains mum as to whether it is an original or a cover, is expected to drop as a digital only, free download release sometime near the end of June, early July. A video to accompany the song is also in the works. Since its release on Friday, December 13, 2013, The “***FLAWLESS” video has showered worldwide media attention on Skeleton Crew. The timing of her release is almost twenty years to-the-date when Skeleton Crew faced a 12-year-old Beyonce and her then group, Girls Tyme on the American Idol of its time TV show: Star Search. Skeleton Crew defeated Girls Tyme, but went on to lose in the semi-finals. The Girls Tyme Star Search loss became “a defining moment of [her] childhood,” according to Beyonce. “I can only hope that more people get exposed to our music as a result,” said William Pilipchuk, lead singer and cofounder of Skeleton Crew. “I’ve always said that Skeleton Crew will forever remain a ‘footnote’ in the career of Beyonce. Now, in light of all the newfound attention Beyonce inadvertently bestowed upon the band, it appears that ‘footprint’ may just get a little bigger.” Stay Tuned... Terry Brown: is a British record producer involved in a variety of work, but most noted for his involvement with the Canadian rock band Rush and the British/Canadian band Cutting Crew. Brown is currently working with emerging Ottawa roots-rockers Ken Workman & The Union.[1] He is referred to fondly by the band Rush as "Broon" in the liner notes for their albums.[2] This nickname appears in the title of the instrumental piece "Broon's Bane" from their live albumExit...Stage Left. On this same record, Geddy Lee jokingly introduces the song "Jacob's Ladder" as having been written by "T. C. Broonsie", another reference to Brown and a pun on the name of Big Bill Broonzy. He also appears as the (uncredited) voice of the hypnotist on the Dream Theater album Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory. Brown has also engineered, produced, and mixed many other artists, including The Rolling Stones, Eagles, Jimi Hendrix, Sonny and Cher, Kenny Rogers, Traffic,Joe Cocker, The Who, The Dave Clark Five, Rush, Procol Harum, The Troggs, The Moody Blues, The Small Faces, Manfred Mann, Marianne Faithfull, Spencer Davis Group, Donovan, Barbra Streisand, Blue Rodeo, Moist, Max Webster, Klaatu, Fates Warning, Lizzy Borden, Voivod, Ray Stevens, the Bonzo Dog Band, Motherlode, Dr. Music, April Wine, The Stampeders, Michel Pagliaro, Moe Koffman, Alannah Myles, B.B. Since then, Sharpe and his 4,000-square-foot facility in Rochester Hills have been cranking out recordings for all sorts of clients. Some of the more notable local artists who have recorded with Sharpe include Critical Bill, Mitch Ryder, The Orbitsuns, The Koffin Kats, Alan Turner and Hush. Sharpe has also done work with national acts -- rappers Yelawolf and Tyga and rock bands Smile Empty Soul and Hawthorne Heights. On Saturday, Metro 37 Studios will debut a series of monthly concerts featuring local bands at Diesel Concert Lounge in Chesterfield Township, where he himself and his professional staff of sound engineers blast out the quality sound. "This is a job that requires someone that loves local music," Sharpe says. "Our goal is to give (the bands) better treatment than they've ever had." Sharpe will also be providing a live recording of Saturday's concert. "I bring in a 24-track recorder and I get all the individual tracks and the audience response," he says. The recordings will be given to the bands to use as they see fit, and Sharpe will feature the recordings on his Website pages. He's also working to develop local bands. "I was a musician up till the time I was about 35," he says. "If I can just help people not make the same mistakes that I've made, they'd be much farther along. Sometimes I help with booking and also about what choices to make, material and places to play." Performing at Saturday's showcase are a handful of newer local rock bands including Blind Season, the ButterKnife Wives, Digital Love, Black Ghost Bandits and Negative Feedback. In April, Sharpe plans to open a second studio in an upper-level space inside the Diesel Concert Lounge. "It's an added value for the venue and for the bands," he says. Sharpe's next showcase, set for April 26, is a project called Kickstart Detroit. The featured band, rockers Curbstone Beauty, will earn money to be used toward a studio recording with Sharpe. The showcase is a collaborative fund-raising effort involving the bar and all of the bands on the bill. Each band will earn money, but the large chunk of the night's take will go to the featured group. Doors at 7 p.m. and music at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Diesel Concert Lounge, 33151 Twenty-three Mile, Chesterfield Township. $5.
